Preposition is a Part of Speech

It shows the relationship between a noun or a pronoun and some other word or element in the rest of the sentence.

There are different kinds of Prepositions:

1. Simple Preposition:

Simple prepositions are 'short' or 'little' words that express relationships including those of space, time and degree.

Examples:

- The class leaves at 5 o'clock.

- The book is on the table.

- The color of the dress is red.

2. Compound Preposition:

A compound preposition is a group of more than one word used as a preposition.

Examples:

- Break the glass in case of of emergency.

- He had fun in spite of bad weather.

- The school was cancelled because of the flood.

3. Double Preposition:

Double prepositions are words having two prepositions (joined together to make a whole new word) such as into, onto, outside of, within, without etc .....

Examples:

- As soon as I entered into the classroom,the bell rang.

- I cannot live without my parents.

- I am busy throughout the day

4. Phrase Preposition:

Prepositional Phrases are groups of words containing prepositions.

Examples:

- The rabbits hopped through the garden.

- Come into the store with me.

- After school children played tag at the park.
